v1.2.2: Performance hotfix

The latest update to S.E.A. continues to make performance gains.

v1.2.2 changes

  • Fixed falling from sky on new game (broken in v1.2.1)
  • Performance optimizations
    • Increased throttling of collision sounds
    • Managed memory of ephemeral noise generators (e.g. surface and wind)
    • Switched to a simpler noise algorithm for a certain visual cue

Known issues

There are a few outstanding issues that will likely be addressed as I proceed with the roadmap:

Frame rates

Frame rates have improved significantly in certain areas at the expense of an art direction that I’m not thrilled about taming. I hope you barely notice the difference. If your frame rates are still suffering, then please reduce your Draw Distance setting. On my machine I’m averaging between 40 to 60 FPS at maximum settings, or about twice as fast as before.

Memory usage

Memory usage has improved significantly in certain areas. This should no longer be a major issue anymore; however, I’m still monitoring the situation.

Whatever else

I’m aware of two other things:

Spoiler Warning
  • Occasionally when treasure spawns the audio cue causes the audio to crash. The only way to fix this is to collect the treasure or restart the game. Don't worry, your progress is saved as long as you pause the game before you exit.
  • Occasionally you can get stuck in the terrain underwater. This usually happens when frames drop during physics calculations. The only way to fix this is to use Fast Travel.

Please comment here or open an issue if you encounter anything.
